The Breakthrough in Beauty judging process is rigorous and time intensive. Each judge must commit at least 2 weeks of his or her time over the course of several months to thoroughly evaluate, rank, test, and choose the eventual Breakthrough in Beauty winner.

Judge Selection

Breakthrough in Beauty™ uses a unique and talented group of elite and unbiased beauty industry experts to help evaluate products for our annual search. They are selected specifically for their expertise in safety, claim substantiation, and ingredients. The Breakthrough in Beauty judging process is rigorous and time intensive. Each judge must commit at least 2 weeks of his or her time over the course of several months to thoroughly evaluate, rank, test, and choose the eventual Breakthrough in Beauty winner.

After reviewing hundreds of product submissions, the panel then puts the select few through extensive testing and in-depth evaluation. These products are each scored on a 100-point evaluation rating in technical, functional, and consumer-appeal categories.
